Change Management
In the broadest sense, Change Management deals with the human dynamics and risks associated with performing
effectively against a strategy. Most organizations focus on change management once a decision has been made to
move forward on a strategy. However, there are also change management considerations when moving forward with
the development of a strategy – for it is here that resistance and disruption are first experienced and begin
to take root.
The focus of change management during the development of a strategy is:
- Primarily, to enable the work to develop and approve a strategy, while minimizing disruption to current operations
- However, this work also informs the strategy regarding change readiness risks and begins to form the foundation
on which to effectively execute the strategy
The focus of change management once a strategy is approved is:
- Primarily, to drive the acceptance, adoption, and preparation to perform under the new strategy in order to
achieve the intended results
- Secondarily, to enable the work to implement the strategy, again while minimizing disruption to current operations
